Can’t add Recovery Contact

When I try and add a recovery contact it fails and goes back to previous screen on both iOS and iPadOS 15. Any one else got the same problem?

having the same issue, commenting to follow, my other family members were able to se me up as a contact, but I cant add any of them. :/

Same here. My wife set me up as her contact but I can't. like you I start the process, Face ID scans my face and now it should show my contacts to use. But it just back to the menu.
I tried it on my iPhone and iPad. I even reset my iPad and tried it without using my back-up. Nothing works

at least there are a few of us. I have tried it from both my iPads and my iPhone... I dont know why my account specifically cant... I'm hoping maybe it's a fluke and it'll work tomorrow? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been searching google all day, so I am happy to see this thread lol. But yeah let's wait 24 hours, maybe something is stuck with some accounts.

I did the same... there's no worse feeling than having an issue and NO ONE else seems to have it. I could not find anything else except here and one person on reddit.

It’s asking me to update my Apple Watch. But it’s already updated. Wtf

So, I restored all devices. I even reset my phone.
Nothing.

called apple care.
they are not aware of this problem yet. apple care told me to try to create a new Apple ID to try if another ID would work.

Same here... I sent it to my daughter and she says when she clicks the message it just takes her to apple.com and nothing happens.

Same thing happens when I send one to my wife. Is your daughters phone on ios15? My wife’s is still on 14.8 and I speculated that was the issue so I was trying to get her to update but she hasn’t yet.

No... she has not updated to iOS 15 yet. I guessed the same thing and asked her to try again after she updates.

Finally got it to work. I selected 4 people. The only one it worked on was after they updated to iOS 15. The other 3 people who have not yet updated, it still doesn't work. Pretty sure that's the problem. Apple should state this somewhere. DUH!

that's awesome, for me though, all of my contacts are up to date. It also asked that all my devices, including my Apple TV was up to date.

so I'm still having the issue even with everyone and everything up to date.

DotCom2 problem was different than ours, he actually got to the "select a contact" mask. IIRC you can't even select a contact, right?

I can go through the whole process and I can select a contact, when I hit "next" it clocks for a bit and then pops up the error message window:

Yes. Feed email address in and it goes back one screen without doing anything.

I just tried adding my wife and it worked with zero issue. The scratched out text shows email address of the person

some people have the problem that Face ID scans their face/Touch ID does it's thing and they get send back to the "add recovery contact" screen instead of seeing a "choose a contact" screen.

some have the problem that they see the "choose a contact" screen but they can't select anyone.

just so there is no confusion I am in group 1.

So, I’ve a new iPhone now and even with a fresh install without using my back-up I still don’t get shown the „add recovery contact“ screen after Face ID does its thing.
apple asked me to create a new Apple ID, but what will that help? „Maybe your @mac.com Apple ID is too old“ Apple customer service said on the phone lol
