Can't add song to playlist.

I'm trying to love Apple Music, but it seems like every other day it is giving me heartburn.



I am trying to add a song to a playlist. When I add the song it shows the animation that the song was added. When I go check in the playlist it is not there. I've restarted the phone, the app, I've tried on my iPad and iPhone. Any ideas?

Unfortunately it's a 2-step process. You have to add the song to "My Music" first...then add it to a playlist. Yet another reason Apple Music puzzles me.

On iTunes (don't do music management on iOS) you can add a selection to a Playlist and it adds it to your My Music Library. Why is iOS different?

Not sure. I was having issues adding songs from Apple curated playlists to a personal playlist. I finally figured out that I had to first add it to My Music before I could tack it on to the personal playlist.

I just added an Music track to a Playlist on my iPhone and it added the track to My Music Library also and within a few seconds appeared on my Mac too. So you can just add to a Playlist on your iDevice and it will add it to your Music Library too. Not sure what you are doing wrong.

Thanks for all the responses. I think it is working sporadically. Syncing seems to lag a bit at times too.

Hopefully they're working on these issues.

I just added an Music track to a Playlist on my iPhone and it added the track to My Music Library also and within a few seconds appeared on my Mac too. So you can just add to a Playlist on your iDevice and it will add it to your Music Library too. Not sure what you are doing wrong.

I'm not doing anything wrong best I can tell. I just tried to add a song from a Jason Isbell Apple-curated playlist to a personal playlist. It doesn't work unless you add the song to "My Music" first. However...if I just navigate to the album (and not through an Apple playlist) then yes...you can just simply add the tune to a personal playlist.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about but I went to a Classic Rock: Patti Smith: Covers Playlist and added 2 tracks to a Playlists. Did one on my Mac and then went and did another track on my iPhone.

Are you having problems adding from a curated Playlist to your Playlist? What am I doing different?

Yes. If I attempt to add a song from a curated playlist to a personal playlist I created...it doesn't work. Like the original poster said...it goes through the "checkmark" animation and says it was added...but it doesn't show up. The only way I've figured out how to add a tune is to first add it to My Music...then add to my personal playlist. I know I'm not the only one having this issue.

Are you on iOS8? If so it may be an iOS8 bug that is corrected in iOS9. In iOS9 we did not get Music until a week later so it may have been found and corrected.

ugh, none of this makes any sense to me!!

You can add some songs directly into playlists from the catalog, but others only show the "Add to Library" option. Not to mention the sync and false-positive issues...

So buggy, and what a crappy interface/experience

Have you checked to make sure that you are not on 'offline' songs mode only for the playlist?
