Please help!! I have a new laptop and I'm trying to back up my iphone 5s. It gets almost to the end of the process and then disconnects. I'm so confused. I've read a suggestion that there may be a security issue somewhere but I'm lost as to what to look for?

EDIT I tried backing it up on my old laptop which I have been using for years. It won't work on that now either. Just tells me that 'the iphone has been disconnected'.

Is it saying 'iPhone connection was reset'?

If so, try the following as it works for me when this issue arises.

Go to iTunes Preferences and make sure there are no backups listed. If so, delete them. Then quit iTunes. Make sure its fully closed out. Next, unplug your iPhone. Plug it back in. Open iTunes. Sync iPhone and then backup iPhone.

I know its slightly long, confusing and tedious, but it should work.

Thanks for your reply. No it's saying this iphone was disconnected? I've just tried it in my old laptop which I've been using to back it up for years and it won't work on that either?

Can you post a screenshot?

Try another USB wire, different computer.
Make sure you have the latest iTunes installed on the computer.
If it still fails I'd backup to iCloud.
Restore the iPhone via iTunes and setup as new.
Then restore from the iCloud backup.
The current iOS build installed on your iPhone might have software issues/bugs causing it not to backup to your local iTunes library.

Thanks.... I have the latest iTunes.
icloud only gives me 5gb - not enough to do my whole phone?
I've backed my iphone up lots of times since my last software update and all of a sudden I'm experiencing this problem. I would have thought bugs wouldn't just suddenly appear?

Yes software bugs do happen randomly.
No rhyme or reason.
Try cleaning your USB port on your phone and test out another wire and computer port connection to rule out faulty connection.

Just my luck!
I have tried a couple of cables and USB ports (and laptops) to do the back up. It will however charge from both laptops. It's just the back up it can't do? I'm ready to throw it out of the window!!

Sorry I can't be of more help as I only have macOS. Usually that issue can be solved with my steps but that is for macOS. Maybe try contacting Apple?
