I am trying to backup my iPhone 7 plus and after I plug it in and iTunes loads up. It says the iPhone has never been backed up to this computer which isn't true. When I click on sync it says iPhone can't be backed up because it's been disconnected which it isn't.

Any ideas?

Only other thing I can think of is rebooting the phone and computer.

THIS ^^

I get this every so often. Not sure if after updates. I usually back up manually, not connected to to macbook. Then I connect to macbook and iTunes shows my latest backup and seems to work as it should for another couple months or so. Make sure iCloud backUp is enabled in iPhone Settings.

How do I backup manually? (This sounds like such a noob question lol)

This is for an older iOS

You need to open Settings and tap on your name at top of screen

Then tap on your iPhone at bottom of screen

You will then see iCloud BackUp

Turn on iPhone BackUp

You should go to next screen where you can back up iPhone

Thanks for catching my mistake. I obviously didn't pay close enough attention. Trying to do too much at once.

No problem. I spent time, after the update that changed the locations, looking for those video steps for several minutes till I figured out new locations.

Thanks everyone. The only way if fixed it was to do an encrypted backup first and then do a regular backup. But it eventually worked.
