Hello,

I have an external DVD player but can't boot from a windows DVD with it. I can boot from the OS X DVD with it though.

When I boot with alt pressed, it recognises the DVD, I can choose it and press enter. Then, after around 5 seconds, the login screen is displayed with my user selected and asking for password. But I can't type anything and I can't move the cursor. Everything is frozen. The light of the caps lock key doesn't even turn on when I press it.

I have a fusion drive and filevault2 on OS X 10.8.3. I tried booting from 3 different windows DVD (2 windows 8 and 1 windows 7, all 64bit). This is on a MacBook 15" mid 2010 where I swapped the optical bay out to make space for a second hard drive.

Anybody else seing this issue? I thought booting from external DVD drive should work?

Next I'll be trying to burn the ISO on a USB stick to see if it helps.

Booting from USB Stick seems impossible: same stick works on a PC, but it doesn't show up as a bootable device in OSX at boot time. rEFInd doesn't help either: computer continues to boot normally, as if I hadn't installed anything. I removed it and I hope it didn't break anything.

Next try: disabling filevault (should have tried this one first...). That's going to take a day, so I'll update tomorrow again I think.
