My caps lock on my macbook pro 2018 got a bit stiff so i removed it to clean below it, now i can't seem to bring it back correctly , the upper part fit in but the bottom part do not adjust itself into place and stay loose , tried multiple times , I am afraid I might moved or broke something in the parts below it and that's the reason it doesn't adjust.

not sure what to do , any advice? should I take it to apple to fix? was removing the key myself was some kind of screwing up my warranty?

thanks for any help!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...
... what you did was a serious mistake.

Your best bet is to take it to a brick-n-mortar Apple Store, and see if they'll repair it under warranty.

You can't just replace "a keyboard" on the new MBPs -- the ENTIRE TOP CASE must be replaced.

Welcome to the new Apple! Break a 5 cent key and it turns into a $700 repair.

Hopefully you like Range Rovers too where you get used to unreliability and needing to bankrupt yourself to keep up with it!

All seriousness go to Apple and DONT tel them you took it off. It can cost you a ridiculous $700 repair

what should i tell them then? that the keyboard key just got loose by himself? is that something that can actually happen?

I would lie and say that. If you say you forcefully took it off, it may not be covered as a defect. They’ll say it’s user damage.

Just say the key popped off and you can’t put it back on. I know it’s hard to lie but it’s ridiculous to pay $700 for a faulty keyboard that you break more just by trying to fix it - then you have to pay for their problem.

It’s so ubiquitous this issue and Apple didn’t acknowledge it for the 2018 yet, but it’s the same keyboard which is ridiculous.

So just lie and they should cover it

Wait is it seriously impossible to replace a keycap without replacing the whole top case? They pop off but don't go back on?

I wouldn't say anything. Just leave the key on as it is and say that the keyboard is giving you issues. Tell them that it is stiff and doesn't always work. There are known issues with the keyboard and they will not be surprised to hear of a problem. If you tell them you took the key off, then they are likely to deny warranty coverage.

There’s like a 25% chance that you can break the clips in the keyboard that attach to the key.

The space bar I believe is a 100% fail rate if you attempt to remove it. Also it’s one of the most common keys to fail as well.

If you look into this issue your jaw will drop.
