Any insight on why I am unable to cancel using the Cancel Order button on the order status page? When I do, it gives me the following message:

Does this maybe mean things are moving along?

This is what Apple says: "Since your items are ready for shipment we are unable to cancel or change your order. However, once the items ship, you may be able to make a return from the Orders page. To request a return now, please call Apple Online Store Customer Service at 1-800-MY-APPLE"

Your order is probably preparing for shipment. Congrats! :)

What gets me is that it still says Processing.
 
For what it's worth, mine also had the same message when I tried to either: change the shipping address or attempted to cancel the order. It stayed that way for 2 days, until it eventually changed to Preparing for Shipment.
 
I ordered a total of three watches.

A 42mm Milanesd at xx:09

A 42mm Sport with White band a week ago.

A 38mm BCB yesterday

I was just experimenting to see if any shipped sooner than the Milanese.

I decided to cancel the other two today. I cancelled the 38 BCB just fine. The 42mm while sport gave me the unable to cancel message. I hit the cancel button on the Milanese as an experiment, and it didn't give me the message (though I didn't confirm the cancellation).

hate to burst everyone's bubble, but this happened to me on a space gray sport to be delivered in JUNE. I just called the number provided and they were able to cancel it no problem.

Did you order with any apple gift cards? I tried to cancel earlier and received the same message as the OP. I thought it may have to do with the gift cards.
 
ordered mine yesterday and it says processing for shipment. I only have to wait an estimated 4-6 weeks. SS with white sports band
 
I'm afraid that if I click the button it will actually get cancelled. Is there some other step required to confirm that you want to cancell just to check if I get the same message as OP?

Yep. They take you to a confirmation page

On Friday, I tried to change my shipping address, I was given the edit fields but couldn't finalize. Initially thought, like you, was preparing but maybe it was a system, glitch :( honestly don't see mine shipping later this week at the earliest tbh
