Trying to clear the ram on my 15 PM by pushing to up volume down volume power button then clicking accessibility button and then home and it’s not working.

Did they disable the feature this year?

The process is:

Volume UP
Volume Down

Hold Power button in until you see the Apple Logo

I was under the impression that this cleared some caches rather than RAM, and is only required if you are experiencing issues. For a more regular refresh, just quit all your apps and restart. Top tip: ask Siri to “restart my iPhone” and you don’t have to wait for it to turn off then manually switch back on.

My way of "clearing the ram" has always been to double-click the home button, so all running apps are shown as a 'stack', then grab and push out of the top edge to "quit" them one by one.

For iPhone models with no home button, since the Shut Down option in Settings was introduced, what I do is:
  • Make sure AssistiveTouch is enabled on Settings --> Accessibilty --> Touch
  • Go to Settings --> General --> Shut Down then tap the virtual button then press and hold Home...
I am not familiar with the hardware presses so this is how I clear the RAM on iPhone with no home button...

This is much easier. Put an icon on your Home Screen and thats all you need.

This is not a process to "clear the RAM". It's a hard reset, and it's the equivalent of pulling the power plug on a computer without shutting down. 99 times it will be fine, but that 100th time you might corrupt data.

It's not a good idea to do this unless your phone is locked up and unusable.

If you want to "clear the RAM", which basically just means getting rid of all background processes, simply turn your phone off and back on again. You don't need to do fancy button combinations.

You could also just swipe everything away in multitasking view.

Even easier, just tell Siri "restart this phone" and it will prompt you to confirm if you want to restart.

But I do this every 5-7 days since I got my first iPhone (13p, 2 years ago).
This means I got way more then 100 restarts. How is my data corrupted? Or how can I check if it is? 😳

Probably bad habits picked up over the years. I was at a birthday party last weekend, and I saw a girl who had the 14PM and she was constantly kicking apps out of memory. That triggers me so bad, lol. Just ignorance.
I do that as well mostly as a fidget thing, but there's certain apps that will over time give problems when keeping open, Netflix for example really doesn't like not being force closed and opened every once in a while.

The virtual home button method may no longer work. I had used it years ago with devices without a physical home button but I tried today and nothing happened.

Every random person that I see on public transport, at the cinema etc is doing this. Seems to be the norm …

I personally only do it for apps like Instagram, Spotify or Google Maps. It would certainly help if Apple added an indicator of what is actually still running in the background like on the dock on Mac
