I've searched the interwebs for an answer, but I can't seem to find one.
I'm restoring my iTunes library from a Time Machine backup. It's around 160GB, and my hard drive has 273GB free.
"The item “iTunes” can’t be copied because there isn’t enough free space."

I repaired disk permissions, repaired the disk, emptied the trash, etc. and what the heck, I can't copy the files!

This happened with my Aperture Library restore also, and for that I had to copy my Aperture library out of my Time Machine backup and use CCC to copy it again to the hard drive.

I do not want to do this every time I have to restore files. Does anyone know why my computer is doing this?

I am not going to give you a solution but two things come to my mind, the amount of data to copy is greater than you think(greater than 160GB) or there is less space than you think.

It says clearly there is not enough free space, so you should look into this instead of repairing permissions and the like, it won't hurt but it seems to me this won't help.
I am pretty sure you clicked get info on the disk to see how much is available and if it shows 273 GB than I suppose that that's right, I suspect it tries to copy more than 160GB, maybe 2 copies(2 x 160 = 320GB.

That's what I suspected as well, but I have no clue as to why it's doing that.
