I have a JPG file I'm trying to delete on my mac. I put it in my trash and clicked empty trash. I'm getting a message telling me its in use and that it can't be deleted.

I can't think of why it will not delete. How do I find out what program is using it?
Its not being used by any of my photo editing programs, I just want to delete it.
    How can I delete it?
Its not locked, already checked that :)

I have no explanation for why this happens but rebooting tends to solve it.

You could also try opening Terminal and enter "killall Finder" and then try to delete it.

check your dock for any open programs, and like disc golfer said, a reboot solves that problem too :)

Also, try emptying the Trash while holding down the Option key.
