solved my problem. i removed one of the drives then booted from DVD. The OS saw it as broken RAID and treated the drives as individual disks so i was able to erase them and reconfigure. reinserted the other drive and erased it as well.
btw i tried terminal command 'destroyRAID' and it didn't work either, i forget the error it returned, something like 9998, google had some info on that error but nothing helped.
