The screensaver keeps activating even though I've disabled it.

Its Preferences time setting is set to Never (but jogging that to any other time and then back doesn't make a difference).

Not sure how long it takes for it to activate, probably 3-5 minutes.

-- When my macbook goes to sleep, I wake it and it wakes INTO the screensaver - so I have to then get out of the screensaver.

-- Sometimes the screensaver kicks in WHILE I am actively using the computer; i.e. typing / trackpad! It recently caused an audio application to crash during a live performance because it randomly activated, and it's impossible to play certain games for longer than 3 minutes.

--I've installed no plugin that would otherwise be any sort of interface or screensaver 'enhancement'.

Any ideas? Google yields no helpful results.

    MacBook 2GHz 2GB RAM
OSX 10.5.5 (it happened in 10.5.4 as well)

Sounds like you have a corrupted preference file - namely, the one that stores the screensaver activation setting. There's a discussion here that may help.

    screensaver issues

I had this problem. Don't know if it's the same for you but I discovered the thing popping up every five minutes was nothing to do with the screensaver. It was actually an Apple Demo. I found the Apple Demo file in Library and there was a Quit Apple Demo button. Click it and hey presto, no more annoying screensaver. This was on my Macbook Pro. Hope this info helps someone else.
