I've had this problem for several weeks and iTunes 11 hasn't cured it.
When I click down load for an app up-date the system goes into an endless loop. Opening app store ... openeng app store ... opening app store ..., but the app store doesn't open and up-date isn't downloaded. After 3-4 days of trying (often), the app up-dates will magically download. BTW I'm having no problems with downloading purchased apps or purchased music.
