I go to login with my email and password and the processing little spinning thing (NOT the beach ball) keeps spinning and nothing happens. I had already logged in earlier to update some other system stuff and something about the EFI and the computer restarted and everything and it said installing updates but I'm still on 10.8.5. Now I opened the app store and I can't even login to download the update! This is stupid! I'd almost rather go back to disc's and flash drives. Any ideas?

    Also unrelated but....
-Is it even worth it to upgrade to El Capitan? Can I still update to Mavericks or Yosemite...I'm always real nervous about new OS's since I seam to loose some function of my computer to OS X bugs or software not being compatible....I have some software that isn't updated frequently and I don't want it to magically fail because Apple's new sparkly OS doesn't like it.
--Also frustrating that I need to upgrade to a new OS X to upgrade FCP X to the latest version, stuck on 10.0.9 and I'd really like the features of 10.1+ sans having to deal with a new OS X. Is that possible? I'm assuming not...

Thanks. I'm currently downloading it right now! I wish they would have issued a notice or given me an error, I was starting to think something wrong was with my Mac. Gonna save that link for sure!

EDIT: Spoke to soon...the download failed...lol well I'll keep trying but at least I got to 99%!

It says failed but that its downloaded (indeed it did download) and then I get a message that says "Use the Purchases page to try again" and I try again and it says "failed to download"...weird..as of 9:39AM system services page for Apple says all is fine but I suppose not

Yeah I tried that but all I get is a message that says "All purchases have been downloaded for this account - you can use the purchases page to download applications again" so I try and do that but OS X El Capitan has already been downloaded, I had about 13-14GB's free and now I only have 8-9GB's free so I know its downloaded. Next I tried the suggestions in this link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4483444
    One poster posted this
Which reflects my exact situation except with El Capitan. Still no dice.

Check for "Install OS X El Capitan" (6.08 Gb) full installer app in the Applications folder. Double click it to install El Capitan. If you want to download the full installer again then delete "Install OS X El Capitan" or move it from the Applications folder before launching the App Store. The Purchased tab should let you download the El Capitan installer now. Be advised the that "Install OS X El Capitan" will automatically delete itself once the installer app has been run and completed the install. If you want to save the installer app then do so before using it. The installer app should automatically launch after it is downloaded but I have been seeing on the forum cases of it not autolaunching. If it does autolaunch and you want to save the installer before using then answer the desired language question, quit the installer app on the next screen, save the installer app somewhere, then double click the installer app in the Applications folder when you are ready to complete the installation.

Thanks! Idk why I didn't think of this before but I got it working and am currently on El Capitan. Now I just have to deal with upgrading all the software, programs, and apps that aren't compatible or friendly with Yosemite let alone El Capitan
