Can't Download IOS 8

I've been trying repeatedly since the release. Every time, it says it will take up to 24 hours. Sometimes it's as little as 8 hours. I've tried to do it directly on my phone, through iTunes, and a direct download link. Nothing works. It times out, gives errors, etc. When the direct download finally completed it said the file was not compatible with my phone. I have a 4S with 12 gigs free. I'm able to download other files from other sites with no problem, so I don't see how the problem can be on my end. Any ideas?

My iPhone was able to download right away but it took my iPad mini until yesterday. I think you just have to keep trying.

For 4 days though? It seems like something must be wrong beyond the "too many users" thing.
