It's interesting that we had similar bugs with our operating systems even though my system was 10.5 on a Intel duo and yours is 10.2 on a power pc. I wonder if it's the same deeper bug buried in the software or just a coincidence.
I'm also curious if they offered you a system upgrade to 10.3, 4 or 5 or not...
It sounds like they were being conservative by starting from scratch rather than risking as I had by just running an upgrade installation. Though I did a back up first, it saved me a lot work of reloading of data and application files.
