I have 8 files in the trash bin on my 15" MBA running macOS Sonoma... when I empty the trash, they disappear, only to return after about 20-30 seconds... I cannot permanently empty the trash.

If I delete other files and empty the trash, those files DO get permanently deleted, but the 8 files return after 20-30 seconds.

How can I permanently delete these files?

What kind of files are they? Are they system protected files?

Open Terminal and type sudo rm followed by a space and then drag the trash files to the Terminal. It should then ask you for your admin pass followed by the return key.

See my amended post. I would delete the files and then reboot. If the files still come back, use my amended post to delete. it should work.
That didn't work ... get file not found message... and looking further see that they are cloud files (cloud icon shows) ... they are actually video files that were stored in dropbox, and were in the dropbox cloud...
