    I have the MBP 13", 10.5.8.

I went to 'Finder' and selected 'Empty Trash'...That was hours ago...It brings up a small window that says it is 'Emptying Trash' but has been stuck on that for probably 8 hrs now...Most other functions on the Mac are operating fine as far as I can tell (Outside the occasional bouncing beachball problem that has been afflicting many new MBPs apparently).

I can't hit the 'x' to stop 'Emptying the Trash'...I hold the mouse button over the trash icon to get the small popup menu to 'Empty Trash' and does not do anything.

I can't restart the MBP...I can't use the 'Force Quit' feature as it doesn't list the Emptying Trash task

No idea what to do from here...

Just hold down the power button to shut down and try again.

    Why can’t you restart it?

Hold down the power button and then turn it back on. It seems Finder crashed at some point.
