iPad Pro Can’t enable HDR output via HDMI

Hi,

I have iPad Pro 2018 and I just purchased Belkin USB-C to HDMI and MS Surface USB-C to Hdmi adapters
Both support 4K HDR, HDCP 2.2 and also I have a few HDMI 2.0 Cable that’s perfect for HDR.
But when I connect to my Sony TV 4K HDR (X8500), on display setting it does not show HDR output for me.
It says that I have to change either cable or adapter to have the HDR function.

I’m pretty much have all the requirements but still can’t use it.
Any suggestions?

PS. My TV shows HDR just fine for PS4 Pro with the same cables

Silly you are in think Apple would support an open standard. I’d like to know Apple’s reason for this. Probably something like “we feel customers aren’t ready” Or it saves battery life
 
Which HDR setting did you try? The Sony X8500 doesn't support Dolby Vision.

I just want to apply HDR10, just the iPad only shows SDR option for me.

If I remember correct the Sony has HDR support only one the first HDMI input and you have to manually enable it when you connect a device. The Samsung tvs have HDR support on all HDMI inputs and also have to be enabled manually. The TVs reset the settings whenever you attach a new device.

Will try again with Samsung at the office :)

Curious - I was going to say I don't believe iPad can output HDR signal, but then you linked towards that Macrumors article. I have a LG C7 and the third gen iPad Pro, but I can't output HDR via the adapter - though, I'm using Apple's USB-C HDMI adapter. Never tried that Belkin one. I also have the Sony XD8000 TV, it supports HDR but it doesn't support Dolby Vision. Perhaps DV support is required (even though there is clearly a HDR only option). No idea.

If you manage to get it working, let us know.

The official Apple Digital AV will never work, since it's only HDMI 1.4 and it doesn't support HDCP 2.2
 
I'm commenting more to follow this thread. My OWC hub also doesn't work but after doing some research I really thought the Belkin adapter would work. Haven't pulled the trigger yet so I'm curious if you can resolve the situation.

Anyone tried to the OWC dock? It soft shoes around HDR support. Instead claiming 24-bit color support which should/could mean recognizing an HDR display as that's part of the requirements.

Pretty much everything displays in HDR.
If you already downloaded iTunes video, it will play that 1080p video in HDR (if available).
But if you delete and stream, it will go up to 4K HDR, I can easily notice the difference

4K 30Hz limit of OWC USB-C dock means DisplayPort 1.2 which doesn't support HDR.

Isn't HDR always 30 bit color, 10bpc?

DisplayPort 1.2 can do 30 bit color, but HDR is more than that - a different gamma curve and whatever.
