MP 1,1-5,1 Can't enter firmware password

I know my firmware password.
During the firmware PW page, mouse and Keyboard are disabled. Bluetooth and wired.

Things I've tried:
1. SMC Reset
2. Wasn't able to do a PRAM reset
3. removed a ram stick (not sure why this would work)

You should use an Apple branded wired USB keyboard for this operation .

Place your Mac into a reduced component configuration in order to reset the NVRAM . I'd start by removing all drives ( ODD , HDD , SSD , PCIe drives ) , all PCIe Cards , retain the fewest number of memory modules recommended for your model .

What model do you have ?

You cannot do that with a Mojave install . You'll need to perform a clean install of HS . You'll also need an EFI graphics card to install HS . You also need an EFI graphics card to enter firmware password .

Right now, 5770HD. I upgraded using a RX 580. But have removed it after upgrading.

If that is an EFI 5770 , then you'll need it later . In the meantime , please follow my advice in order to reset NVRAM of your Mac . Bring the System to a more minimal configuration and PRAM it .

I just went through this situation with my own Mac Pro 5,1 three days ago when my keyboard acted up and gave me weird characters . It didn't want to NVRAM reset either . So , I kept removing components and repetitiously attempted PRAMs until I finally got three successive chimes during start up . After that , it returned to normal .
