I'm a bit confused with the music app.

I've never uploaded/activated my music into iCloud music as I hate iTunes match (it replaces my special or remixed versions of songs without asking)

do I have to save tracks and create playlists from Apple music by activating iCloud music in order to sync to watch?
is that how it works?

also is there a way to search top charts? i know i can ask siri to play a particular artist or album but there's no way to see top charts by genre? like in the regular music app?

how much space does iCloud music have for you to save tracks?

are they actually downloaded to the phone and then to the watch or is does the watch just stream whatever you've 'saved' on your ios music app?

thanks for insight on this

The watch generally does not “stream” music from phone to play. Instead, it is just a controller.

I don’t use Apple Music so can’t help you on this one.

Check out the Music section of the Watch app on your iPhone.

There you will find options for what music you would like to sync to your watch. I believe it does require an Apple Music subscription but am not certain.

And as @Shirasaki says, you can use your watch to control music that is playing on your phone. This is actually incredibly handy, especially when skipping through ads on podcasts.

my question isn't about the Apple Music subscription i already have that it's about how to play it on the watch
Alright.
Wait for watchOS 4.3. And there will be a feature to allow you to play your Apple Music on your watch.
Right now, Siri could also be used to play Apple Music in your watch.
Alternatively, you can go to music section of watch app. You will then be instructed how to sync some music from Apple Music to your watch for offline listening.

Thank you!
4.3 is supposed to be out this month right?

yeah i want to be able to access all or most of apple music on the watch by itself not just the radio playlists. the advertising is misleading a little bit

You can play Apple Music on your watch without 4.3. If it isn’t already synced via the Watch app, you can only access it via Siri.

4.3 re-enables — to some extent — the ability to browse music that is stored on your phone. As it is now, if you start playing music on your phone, you can then control it on your watch.

so pretty much i need to activate iCloud music and create playlists/saved music there for watch to sync?
iCloud music is not required. Just sync music from your phone to your watch. This is also helpful if your watch does not have LTE connection.

Yes. 4.3 is supposed to be released in late March or early April.
