Here's a link to Apple's KB describing where the files are (you can argue with them).

OT: Like everything else you're trying to do, your attempt to include images didn't work.

That link has a list of error messages, I don't have an error message. I do not see what you are referring to, but, check out my pics #17 above.

I see the 7 pics I posted via photobucket, post #17.

It is in "users~/library/iTunes/iPhone Software..."
Not in Library/iTunes

If you follow DHLizard's advice you will see it.

there is no "Library" folder in my users folder.

my itunes library is in my music folder, which does not have "iphone soft..." either.

There is no "iPhone Software Updates" folder on my mac anywhere, did you see the pics in post #17?

there is no "Library" folder in my users folder.

Finder hides it from you, but it is there. Even if you don't use any third party apps, most of the built in apps keep their user settings in that folder.

In Finder under 10.8

Go -> Go To Folder -> ~/Library

will generally open it even if you can't see it there by browsing as your posted pictures seem to suggest you tried.

Solved!

THANKS for this! :D ...I thought maybe they make it hidden now...or else I made it visible so long ago I forgot about it. This is the first time I've tried to get into this folder since I updated to Mountain Lion (december), ...wait, uh, since upgrading internal HDD (late november), so either the new Lion install on new hard drive or the 10.8 upgrade must have made the Library folder invisible again.

I found two .ipsw files (6.1 & 6.1.2), deleted them, then I go to itunes and it says 6.1.2 is available (w/download options)!? :( (why not 6.1.3?)

I decided to go to: http://www.idownloadblog.com/download/ and download 6.1.3 ipsw. I then put the 6.1.3 ipsw in the iphone soft... folder, then, in itunes, I cancelled the prompt for 6.1.2 update, I option-clicked on "Update", selected the 6.1.3 ipsw, and it is now updated w/iOS 6.1.3! :)

I have to say...it was so much easier to find invisible files in some old version of OS X (Jaguar?) with the spotlight/search function...anyone remember this...you could define what kind of file you were searching for including "visibility".

Hey, guess what, you didn't follow my post because if you did, holding the alt key shows this invisible folder which is where I was telling you to go. I could tell from your screenshot you weren't following my directions. Turns out it was
you who wasn't listening when I was trying to help.

Maybe, but, it was visible before, which is what did not make sense to me. I was busy with other things that day, and also trying to figure this out. (I also just got to the email that showed me you responded to this). ...your posts mainly missed my point, you kept telling me where it was when I wrote in the first post that it wasn't there. You didn't mention anything about "visibility", and I didn't think about that right away, all I knew was that the folder was there and now it wasn't. I couldn't find it where it used to be. (Ever since upgrading to Mtn Lion, I kept looking at my home folder and it seemed like something was missing or different.) So I tried Spotlight. Spotlight couldn't find the folder or any .ipsw files, even though they were there, but, I didn't realize that somehow they were made invisible when, previously they were visible. (I also never use the "Go" menu in finder, I don't find it particularly useful).

In one post, balamw posted a link that was the most helpful. That link was all I needed. I was able to make the folder permanently visible, problem solved. Maybe you should read the page in the link, you might find it helpful too.

I've been using macs since before mac os X. I've gone through every version of mac os X since 10.0. That folder used to be visible, apple changed it at some point in time. OR, I made it visible some time ago, so long ago I forgot about it, and it stayed that way until a couple months ago when I changed my HDD or when I upgraded to Mtn Lion, (I haven't been in that folder since before these changes).
