Helping a friend who wants to use GarageBand on a mid-2007 iMac (3gb ram, 2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo). The latest OS I'm able to install on it is 10.10.5.

When I try to get GB from the Apple Store on the iMac, I get a warning saying that 10.13.6 is needed, but I'm not able to install a higher OS.

Any ideas? Would love to find an older version to run on this.

Search for the iLife '09 or '11 DVD installer. It might be the easiest path. They're widely available on eBay.

Ah, good idea, thanks. So the GB on those installation discs should work with the iMac I mentioned in OP?

They should. If you can find the .DMG anywhere, that should work too. My local Apple store had some kind of physical disk on hand as of last year, just was not for sale. Think it was just for repair service of older machines via appointment.

Believe iLife '11 was last physical release. Required at least Mavericks for GB with updates, but not 100%. It's been a really long time.

Believe iLife '13 was the first download-only release. That is better version to target if you can access anywhere.
