Can't find Java in System Preferences

Hello I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8 and where java should be in system preferences there is nothing. I have java 7 and if anyone could help it would be amazing I've spent 4+ hours trying to find it lol.

In the search box in the upper right of System Preferences, did you type Java? If it doesn't show up with anything, it's probably not installed.

It doesn't say anything but I do have it because in the control panel is says I have java 6/7

Java 7 is not compatible with OS X 10.6.8
Minimum requirements for Java 7 is OS X 10.7.3, or higher.

how do I uninstall it? I still had java 6?

I cant find JavaAppletPlugin.plugin but in java preferences it says i have Java SE 7
