Hello everyone, not too long ago I recently bought an iMac G5 PowerPC. Works great, but the one thing that bugs me is for some reason, I cannot find the serial number. Not at the bottom of the base, nor in the System Profiler. There is a blank space where the serial number should be. What can I do to find the serial number for this iMac?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you looked through the documentation (if you have it)?

It doesn't show up in "About This Mac" when you click "More Info"?

I didn't think you could remove the sn from the profiler. Always assumed it was burnt into the firmware. Any odds of it being stolen?

Have you looked to see if there is a label under the foot of the machine?

about this mac just pulls the info from system profiler

if it is blank there or says "system serial" in that field then it means the logic board was replaced and the retail store or service provider didnt add it back in.

if should be printed under the stand on the front part of the imac, if its not there then you could remove the screen and get it directly off the logic board.

Dealers can't put a serial number into a replacement logic board.

If a logic board is replaced (common for a G5 iMac) then the serial number you normally see 'in software' will be blank.

The serial number on a label on the logic board itself IS NOT the serial number of the Mac.

It should be on the under-side of the iMac's "foot". If the rear case has been swapped and the label is missing (the repairer is supposed to transfer the label), there should be a serial number label on the inside on the "midplane assembly" only on the iMac G5 & iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor).

See this Apple article for the location of the labels.

If you don't see a label in the location noted in the above article, you're out of luck. :(
