Hi all,

My MacBook Pro is showing me that I have a 28.74GB file somewhere in my system but I can't find it anywhere.

Screenshot 2020-03-21 at 12.07.02.png

I have tried 'Show in Finder', I have followed the folder links and the file doesn't seem to exist. Also when I click the 'Delete' button, nothing happens.

I am stuck. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this 'non-existent' file?

Thanks,
Luke

You didn't mention looking in your Downloads folder. Since it says "Online" in the title, that would be a logical place. I'm sure that's too simple to be the solution. Maybe it was an installer?? Download it again and eject the disk image???

Try using DiskWave to find the file:
Download DiskWave from here:
It's small in size and free.

Open DiskWave and go to the preferences.
Put a checkmark in "show invisible files".
Close preferences.

The DiskWave window shows you all your drives in plain English (no ridiculous graphical formats).
Click on any drive.
Now, you'll see what's ON the drive, listed in order of "largest to smallest".

See if this "finds" the file.
If it doesn't, my GUESS is that you're seeing a file that's "online somewhere", but you haven't actually downloaded it yet to your Mac (hence, the "never opened" detail)...

I had this problem, and it took me an hour but I found the solution.

You have to download or go through steam to delete the file. Download steam, then open the library tab. Then right click on lord of the rings, and uninstall all local content off your computer.

Sadly, you can't just post it into your trash can. Hope this helps, although I know nothing about computers, but this was the solution I found.

I've tried this and it won't work for the same problem I'm having with an old Left 4 Dead 2 Beta file.
