Cant format hd for clean install

When i am in the lion recovery section, the one you can boot into.

Then i try format my hard disk then i says that it cannot make it passive what should i do?

Are you trying to reformat the disk or just a volume on that disk?

You cannot format the entire disk since you're using part of it. What exactly are you doing in Disk Utility? You haven't provided much information. Do you have a backup?

I have tried to erase it and patrion it iv gives the error couldnt make disk passsive

robgendreau is saying that you are booted from a partition on the disk you are trying to erase. Can't be done.

You probably just want to erase the system partition if you're looking to reinstall Lion.
