Hi,

Today we purchased an Apple TV 3 to stream videos and photos etc from our family iMac.

Now, the ATV can see the iMac fine, it can play all the videos in iTunes and can see all the photos.

However, I cannot for the life of me get it to see my MacBook Pro, and AirPlay just seems to be non-existant.

All devices are using the same Apple ID for Home Sharing, all are on the same WiFi network, AirPlay is on in the Apple TV Settings, all devices are using the latest OS/iTunes...

I'm truly stuck. I know Home Sharing can sometimes be a bit flakey, but AirPlay, from my experience, usually works.

Can anyone help? 🙁

Does your MBP see other Bonjour services on local network? I.e. File sharing on iMac??

Hi,

Thanks for your response.
Usually I'm very good with OS X, but not really that great at troubleshooting networks.

How can I tell if I can see file sharing on the iMac from my MBP? 😱

Thanks.

Well, I leave it overnight and suddenly everything is working.

Haven't changed any settings, but the ATV can now see my library, and the MBP and my iPhone AirPlay perfectly to it.

Literally no idea why it suddenly started working, touch wood it'll stay that way now!

You share some folder on iMac, then your iMac should appear on MBP in Finder Sidebar. If it doesn't, you have a problem with Bonjour service discovery on your MBP.

Yes, it works fine - thanks for your help.

Weird, but all seems to be working with the ATV now as well.
