iPod touch Can't get Gmail to work on my iPod Touch

I Can't get Gmail to work on my new iPod touch? I enter the correct email address and password but it still gives me errors? I got my apple email and yahoo acct's set-up no problems what am i doing wrong.....Thanks in advance.

Are you setting it up via the GMAIL button on your touch?

Also what you need to do is login to your gmail account on a computer, hit settings, then click Forwarding and POP/IMAP, then DISABLE POP and ENABLE IMAP.
 
You're not alone! I've had trouble too, even restored. It's starting to work...hopefully.
 
Gmail

I Disabled the imap but i don't see anything that says disable POP for mail just what i have copied below. I get an error message saying cannot connect using SSL?


Enable POP for all mail
Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
 
No no, you need to enable IMAP.

Above the words "Enable POP for all mail
Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" does it say
1. Status: POP is disabled?






IMAP should look like this


1. Status: IMAP is enabled
Enable IMAP
Disable IMAP
 
Well my Gmail in the mail.app was working ok until I JB 1.1.3 and now it does not update even though it says it is.

The mails stays the same and the updated date and time remains at 28/02/2008 13:18

I am going to move to 1.1.4 tonight and JB with ziPhone now that it works and hopefully the mail.app will work then.

I have IMAP enabled and i keep getting "INVALID CREDENTIALS" ?

POP is disabled imap enabled , tried to set it up on the touch in the screen that says in mail then add account then other. Still not working

Thats your problem, go to add account and hit the big huge GMAIL button
 
Either your IPT is jailbroken or something or you're not doing something right, i have had 0 problems with mine
 
I had the same identical problem for several days. I verified all my information and it drove me nuts. Then, without any change, the next day I tried it once more and - it accepted the information and I was on. The whole process took 3 or 4 days.

No reason why it didn't work before, but now I'm on.

Well i had the small issues and bang my head for a few, but A few Question for you MARK065

1. what are you using to sync your music AKA you using a PC or MAC.

2. what kind of WIFI are you using? are you picking it the net on your own Routers, or you doing want most do and do a drive by at starbucks or someother router.


this will help me answer your first question. B.C I think I know your issue and can help but you need know those things first.

I am using a Mac-book... have been using Mac since 1994,i access the internet via a very high speed cable connection. My Gmail still does not work and i have tried every possible thing and followed all the proper procedures. I hope you can give me some insight as to what it is i am doing wrong. Thanks you in advance.

ok I am guessing one of two thing your checking your mail through the website or MAIL.app...

ok if your checking on website that ok but not going to help you.


Do not plug you iPod in yet

in fact manuel Del all mail and any other set that you set, put them back to what you think are the default. I ask you to do this just to make sure everything works with no add side problem :)

for the best way I have found it to work is using MAIL.app with Gmail IMAP account

ok now you should have your IMAP turn on and POP turn off. for this to work in more then one place. and trust me you do not pop3 only on your Touch. Believe when I say this. I personaly love my Touch. but I still used my MAIL.APP b/c you can store save email email on to your macBook.

now you have your email running on you MACbook. your say get it on my touch...


ok here where it get simple. open iTunes if it not, Now iTune is going to pick up your Touch. now go over to the info tab on the Ipod Touch, setting in iTunes. then scroll down and click the option for adding your email to the touch..

this works for me.

the big GMAIL button will give you pop3 access so that has to be enabled..
or if you need imap syncing then enter settings into iPhone mail manually by selecting 'other'

That is incorrect, google changed it as of 1.1.3...its even on their site, please read it
