Can't get Ipad to connect to car stereo

Having problems with my IPad connecting to my new Kenwood KIV-BT900. Nano, IPod touch and Droid phone all works well. Any Suggestions?

Connectiong via audio out or is there an iPod connector?

Yes there is-I'm not sure if it even suppose to connect.

I use one of those cassettes you pop in with the wire that plugs into your iPad/iPod.
