Can't get on gmail with mail.app

it says "username/password incorrect in imapi.gmail.com" everytime I try to log in.

I have tried 30 times and each time on a new email account it does the same.

My password is right because through safari mobile it works fine and through a laptop too.

It should be IMAP.gmail.com or POP.gmail.com

I hate to say this but Googling it does yield a great deal of help. Even Gmail's own help is pretty good at setting Gmail up with Mail, even the Mac OS 10.2 version.

Sorry I meant imap.gmail.com

the iPhone has a "gmail" selector as an email carrier so I don't have to enter it manually. It still does the same thing.
