Clearly the other person needs to speak louder.

On a more serious note, is there any difference in volume if you switch to speakerphone during a call?

That should mean that the earpiece (top speaker) hardware itself is working fine.

Have you tried shutting down and restarting the phone?

Alright - when you say you've turned everything up, where and how exactly have you done this?

The volume up and down buttons on the side.

I even went into settings and turned it right up there on both phones.

Could you try using the buttons on the side during a call? The iPhone maintains multiple volume levels, and call volume can only be affected during a call. If you adjust volume outside of a call it's adjusting either ringer volume or media playback volume.

Okay, I'm assuming when you did so you saw this icon in the volume bar (see attached screenshot of volume bar in iOS 13 during a phone call).

Have you used Bluetooth headphones with your iPhones, or have you connected them to Bluetooth speakers or car audio systems?

Yes I saw that icon when turning up. Have not connected headphones or been in the car with the phones.

It’s got to be something simple, surely, as they are brand new and both with this problem. So frustrating?‍♀️

Glad to hear you sorted it out. In case someone else runs into this thread later looking for solutions, what worked in he end?

I posted on my fb page looking for help and my daughter asked me if I’d taken the plastic off ?. Thanks so much for trying to help me. Cheers from down under ??

I hadn’t removed the plastic cover from the phones as I was waiting till we buy cases. Hence they were over the earpiece obviously lol

OMG!!!! Thank you so much! I didn't receive a case yet, so I too had the plastic film on the front of the phone: I couldn't hear anything and the person I called couldn't hear anything!!!

Amazing! Thanks again for your post!

Does anyone of you guys hear a buzz/crackling sound from earpiece speaker during phone calls on loudspeaker mode at full volume ? Either the earpiece speaker on iPhone 11 Pro is low quality or my device is defective but this is sure that the overall sound quality of iPhone 11 pro nowhere comes close to my older s10+ which I traded in for this phone. Tbh, I regret trading in my best sounding phone for a phone with an inferior sound quality.

I cannot. There are no Apple Stores in my country. Authorised resellers here dont have any return policy.

But didn't you mention that you traded in your s10+ to get the 11 pro? I'm sure you can do it the other way around, too.

If the 11 pro's speakerphone sound quality is not up to your standards as you noted, then I don't see why you would hold on to it. If you suspect defective hardware, take it back for repairs or replacement. If you believe it's just poor quality and it bothers you, trade it in.

If this is, in fact, not a big problem for your every day use and you find the 11 pro otherwise superior to the s10+ for your needs then I'm positive the regret you're feeling will pass and you'll be happy with the iPhone.
