I would encourage him to go to an urgent care clinic.
Agreed. The ER should be a last resort.

Copays for ERs are usually higher, sometimes double the normal copay.
[Emphasis Added] Does it work with the other ear?Funny you ask, I have a genius bar appointment for 3pm today (iPhone wifi not working), and my doctor is right near the Apple store, I guess I'll make an appointment to the doctor for after my genius bar visit.
Because there should be no copay, period. And I couldn't care less if you disagree with me. I live in a country with a system that's worked for generations. You live in one where it's been broken for generations. You have no wisdom to offer any other country when it comes to managing health care. None whatsoever.

Have you recently or in the past blown your ear drums out with loud music or power tools?Luckily it stopped for now. I guess I'll just forget about it this time, but if it happens again then definitely going to the doctor.

I get ringing all the time and then it stops. That is usually a sign of minor hearing loss. When the ringing stops it is hairs in your ear drum dying off.
I figured if someone else has experienced it before and it's something that came and went on its own, then I'll spare myself the $25 copay and won't bother going to the doctor if its no big deal.
I did read about that yesterday and it scared me a bit. I'm really hoping it's not that.

That is good advice. Just as a general rule of thumb, I figure having things like this documented is good practice since a pattern of seemingly unconnected symptoms might in fact mean something to a doctor.Or bring it up at your next regular visit, which apparently is going to be within a month or two anyway.
Nope. The advantage of a 'universal healthy insurance' system is that extra costs of the very small number of people who abuse the system ('hypochondriacs' in your words) is balanced by the vastly larger savings of people dealing with their medical issues before their health deteriorates to the point that a small easily fixed problem has mushroomed into one that requires expensive hospitalization. The result is a society that lives longer, is healthier longer, and spends less per person on healthcare to get those results. You have no copay for non-routine medical visits? Are you paying taxes to indulge hypochondriacs? Suit yourself, but I would be pretty unhappy about that.
I had this happen once. The same thing happened, it just went away very quickly. The weird thing is that it happened RIGHT before I had to go to a party where the music was SO LOUD that the tables were shaking.
A doctor will prescribe you ear drops and maybe allergy medication. That's what mine did a few months ago when I came in with ear pain among other things. I think it's a good idea to get that (since it's over the counter anyway), and try it for a week before seeing a doctor, because yeah, it does save you the cost of going to see one. A little bottle is like $5 I think.
Ear wax? Not sure about the 'white nosie' though. Debrox works well. If you get the box with the irrigator it usually flushed the wax out. Although you said it went away so maybe not...
Just a thought.
It's been 2 days now, I can still hear a little bit but for the most part I can't hear from my right ear and there's this kind of white noise sound that I'm constantly hearing. It's getting really annoying. Have any of you guys ever heard of anything like this or experienced it? I'm getting really irritated with the white noise and lack of hearing.
