I'm having the same issues as this post:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3720163?start=0&tstart=0

Only, it happens in any browser, Safari, Firefox, Chrome.

When I want to highlight a text (click, hold, drag down) I can only highlight the text that's on the screen then the highlighting simply stops.

However I can start at the bottom of a page and highlight and it scrolls fine if I start at the bottom and scroll up.

What in the world is going on?

I'm new to Mac, was never a problem in Windows, and this only a month old Macbook Air with 10.9.4.

Thanks for your help

Click and hold the trackpad down, then slide some until it starts selecting text.

Next, you should have one finger pressed down while two others scroll. So just add a finger and two-finger scroll like normal.

Does that help?

Does that help?

Nope.
What you described sounds like the typical way to highlight and select text and it only works if I'm going up, never when I start at top and need to go go down past the screen I have in front of me.

Anything else I can do?

Clean your trackpad?
Honestly, got no clue. I don't have the same problem. Consider re-installing OS X?

If I do that would be the second time I have to reinstall the OS in only a month.
Weird.
Maybe these machines are just not for me.
Not being judgmental, Ford/Chevy, Toyota/Honda, and all that.
Just weird that I would have to reinstall the OS on a brand new machine twice.
I may take it to an Apple store, although I have a feeling they'll suggest the same.
Such a hassle reinstalling everything, every software, every software setting....etc. etc.....

You likely did not understand what joshlalonde said.

This does work, and is NOT the typical way to highlight and select text : it is different, check again.

Your whole case is unusual dude. I've never had problems like that before. Apple is known for its superior trackpads. Unfortunately, sometimes bad products get shipped out. They likely didn't test all different kinds of scrolling scenarios before shipping it out...

Take it to the shop, see if you can get a new mac. Its a hardware defect most likely. How can your software be different than mine? Unless you're not on the latest update..

And ya, that's not the typical way to scroll while selecting text. Just so happened to work when i played around with my trackpad.

After trying joshlalonde's suggestion again, this time in detal..., this does indeed work.
How weird that I would not have to do any of this when I highlight and scroll up.

Although weird as hell I can live with this.

Thanks for y'all's help.

Much appreciated

They completely screwed this up in Monterey. I still can sometimes scroll while holding one finger on the trackpad but most of the time it just doesn't register im pressing on the trackpad. Also the scrolling seems to be a bit more "floaty" and less rensponsive than it used to be. Very annoying.
