I wanted to use an older iPT with iOS 6 (can't load past iOS 6). I found a free app that works with iOS 6 and went to install it from the app store on the device. Everything is fine so far.

Then it stops and wants a credit card for payment. I've installed free apps before in this device and it's never been a problem. It's been a long while, but it never gave me a problem before.

Why is it asking for a credit card or any other payment type when it's a free app?

They other apps before didn't ask that and they have in app purchases.

Also, I've got credit on my Apple account from when I bought an iTunes card, I've used it to purchase music and stuff in the past, why doesn't it take that?

The app is a free wifi phone that I wanted to put on the iPT. Skype won't work because it's an older version of iOS.

It sucks that a device that cost me some $300 is now nearly a worthless brick:mad: It's worse that when I find something that works with iOS 6, I can't install it without a credit card. Doesn't the iTunes cards act as credit?

Do you have a computer with iTunes on it? Log on your account on that, and start downloading the app, once it starts downloading, just cancel it. Go back to your iPod and see if it let's you download it, the Get button should change to a little download icon on your iPod. Hope this helps.

I'll give that a shot, I just wonder why it would want a credit card when it's the same account and I think it was showing a balance.

It really sucks that the app store doesn't have a way to filter based on iOS version. The older devices are still usable.

Yeah, they should of added in that filter feature when ios7 came along for the 4g and lower models. Not sure why it's not letting you download without the credit card, especially when it worked before, on my 4g there was times when I had problems with the app store too, one of them is not telling me if there's an update for an app, had to manaually search for the app to to see if there was an update, never got it fixed.

Well I tried to use iTunes to down load the free app. It want's billing info in order to 'purchase' a free app.
