Forgive me if the answer to my question is glaringly obvious, I'm still new to the world of Macs. But basically I've been trying unsuccessfully to install OS X (10.4.2) onto an older Mac Mini. When I load the disk I get the error message that the os can't be installed onto this computer (something similar to that). So I just recently got another set of install disks from Apple that should work with the Mini and I get the same error message. Not sure what to do next at this point. Any suggestions?

Are you using the grey restored DVD that came with the Mac Mini?
What exact restore DVDs do you use? Post what is printed onto them.

Which version of OS X is currently on the mini? What do the discs say—is it an actual OS X Tiger disc or the restore disc from some other computer? (as far as I know, you can't use a restore disc to upgrade a computer)

How are you installing? Are you booting up from the disc? (restart the computer with the disc in, hold down 'c' on the keyboard until it loads up into the installer)

I don't have the disks in front of me at the moment, but both set of disks are for the Mac Mini. Also I should mention too that this is a new install. a new drive has been installed in the Mac.

If the restore disks are from a newer MacMini it won't work. You'll need a disk from the retail OS box.

ok, here are the disks I tried to install.

1st Set of Disks - Mac Mini - Mac OS X Install Disk (Mac OS version 10.4.2 - AHT version 1.1 - Disc version 1.0)

2nd Set of Disks - Mac Mini - Mac OS X Install Disk (Replacement DVD - srf2z691-5615-a)

As far as I know these disks are'nt for a newer Mac, they should be for the one I have.
