Can't kill pids to use Tiny Umbrella

I have a first generation ipad 16G , 7 G free space, running 3.2.2
Pushed to many buttons and itunes wants to do a do over. I want to keep my data.
My ipad is NOT jailbroken.

A generous soul on this forum recommended Tiny Umbrella. I downloaded and killed the pid. But more pids came back. I kept killing. Then I rebooted and tried again. Same recurring pid problems. Any suggestions?
