Cant macbook run when its closed?

Hello
I have a macbook, and when i close the screen, och u know, just close it, everything stops, my download, it goes in to some kind of rest mode or whatever. Is it like this for everybody? theres nothing u can do about it.

Do i have to have it open, so everything can run like normal?

Closing the lid puts the MB into sleep mode. If you don't want it to go to sleep you can plug in an external monitor and keyboard.

It'll run if you've got an external monitor and keyboard attached. Otherwise, it'll just go to sleep.

i use insomniax and it works like a champ for long overnight video uploads.

insominax has an option to keep the computer running (Enable Insomnia) and another option to turn off the monitor (Sleep Monitor)

Try using the "remote" as well. (That's if you had one in the box when you bought it).😱
