Can't you ask your boss if you can work overtime to compensate for the loss of one day? If you haven't tried its worth trying, you absolutely need to go to your court date, really no matter what. You may just have to take it like a man

no offense but grow up and get your sh*t together and go to court

otherwise you will be well deserving of any punishment you get

dont like the court date? then why did you speed?

sorry, there. just. isnt. really. any. excuse.

you are risking possibly going to jail when you have a newborn in the future and a wife. wow talk about being responsible and looking out for their best interest:rolleyes: then youd be missing work and providing no income for quite some time as opposed to ONE day....

you can make it work if you really wanted to but i dont think you do and yet you come on here trying to obtain sympathy. sorry it wont work. sell your car or whatever vehicle with the 250ish loan payment and get another job. do what it takes PERIOD

be a man and owe up to your responsibility. a little inconvience now is a LOT better than a possible jail sentance down the road. can you really not see that?

what really is the purpose of this thread?

how would you have handled the situation if you had gotten a dui? you would have HAD to PAY for alcohol classes, probation meetings, community service, rise in insurance, drug tests , court dates, them towing your car at your expense. fact is they dont give a damn about your situation yet you still have to accomodate to the situation you put yourself in whether you like it or not. if you had a dui, i gurantee you would change your life to make ends meet as you would have no choice in the matter. you dont think you are the only one who is struggling to get by yet have to have a court date??? seriously they make it work i imagine more often than not so why cant you?

sorry if its harsh but you really dont have an excuse when its all said and done in the eyes of the court system

Listen. When a judge says you go somewhere, you go. No pissing about. Get your arse down to that courtroom or you're going to regret it big time.

And next time, keep to the speed limit. That's what got you into this mess in the first place!

Tried too.

Good question. With the ATV gone there is one less payment, and insurance will go down a little.

Live in the middle. There is no public transportation other than taxis.

Rent a car - do you have a credit card you can put the rental on?

You don't really have a choice but to go. Not going creates a bigger sh*tstorm than you're currently in.

Ask your boss for the time off and explain to him. Ask for a payroll advance, do something.

You keep giving yourself the option not to go. Simply don't give yourself the option and you'll figure out a way.

the sad thing is, i dont think he realizes there is no option and believes he has a say in the matter

Pay your ticket, then sit down with a financial counselor, and get a budget worked out. And, get you a weekend job. You need to sock some money away for the baby, and her doctor visits. For go utilities, power off you can live with for a month. Drop the internet for a while as well.

What I don't understand is that you didn't pay the fine due to insurance however surely go to court over the matter and getting done for speeding is the same admission from the insurances stand point, i.e. you are a speeder and thus the end point is the same.

No it is not the same thing from the insurance stand point.

From the insurance stand point they only count against you if they go on your driving record.

I paid something like 600 something to 3 different cities a 3 years ago to keep 3 tickets I received in a 1 week span off my record. I did it with out ever setting foot in a court house and all over the phone. Defensive driving one off, and deferred the other 2. I just called them on the phone and did it all that way. Ticket I got last year I just went to the court house and took defensive driving.

I would like to point out that the 3 ticket string was a fluk and a string of bad luck. I got 2 of them with in 2 hours. One was legit I was speeding. The other was true speed trap. The 3rd the car next to me was speeding but slammed on the brakes. So it look like it was since I was the lead car. Not like I expect any one to read any of these and just see 3 tickets....

Sum it up call them on the phone deffer it and just pay the fine. You can do it all though the mail.

My advise it let this be a lesson to you to GET AN EMERGENCY FUND You will be amazed at what a simple 500 bucks in emergency funds will save you ass from.
It useful for when things like this come up. I got screwed my last year in college when I was bare min where a 20 buck unexpect charge would screw me up and I got hit with over 100 in dealing with a ticket. Now I been out for a year and have built up a savings. Let me tell you it saving me right now when I going to have to pay out my 500 next week when my car gets out of the shop.

To echo a few sentiments here - you need to grow up. You're about to be a father and you're complaining you don't have enough time now?

A fairly sized **** is approaching an even bigger fan my friend. Get a grip, flog things you don't need, buy/sell on eBay to make extra money. Hell I went through most of this year with such little income... All of it going places that weren't me. I haven't bought something for myself since April but you have to live like that if it (courts, family, stress) calls for it.

Court is about 90 miles away, or about a hour and a half.

Money. No vacation time left at work. Very busy at work. One vehicle between my fiancee and i. She has classes during the day. Still trying to recover from having to move unexpectedly back in july. Etc etc.

I have asked for either a payment plan or something like that so i could pay the fine, but they won't answer me.

By saying you have no vacation time left at work that would suggest that you had vacation time to use and you used it on other things that were somehow more important than owning up to a mistake that many have made.

Busy at work? Sorry, but were you too busy to be out speeding one night? Make the time.

One car? Sounds like someone needs to bum a ride from a friend to school.

Moving expenses? Going to court is just about time ... at least right now.

Payment plan for <$100? I'm sure you've blown <$100 on something before.

XXXXX got a ticket and was given YYYYY punishment so now you're all wounded because your punishment seems harsher? Really?

Dude you're hosed. Why? Because you have a total lack of focus on what is important and what isn't.

It'll be a bench warrant and that <$100 speeding ticket will turn into something so much more.

Get more responsible, keep a better track of your priorities, and most of all, don't break the law. Going 88 MPH on a 70 MPH highway is extremely dangerous.

You can drop $67 on a floor lamp but can't afford to drive an hour and a half away?

Take the floorlamp back, buy an $8 floorlamp from Walmart, then go buy a $5 flourescent lamp so it's not expensive to use, then use the money you saved to take a morning/afternoon off of work to go deal with your ticket. Get your girlfriend to get a ride with a friend that day. I'm sure you have friends.

And you have two cars, and one is broken? Fill the broken one, sell the one with the higher payment, then stop buying things/living on credit.

Then set aside $500 in an emergency fund. With a kid, you'll need it.

Shred the credit cards, and set up a budget. Attempt put 10% of your money aside for retirement. Then build up your emergency fund so that it could sustain you for 2-3 months if you got laid off.

And follow the law.

Tough love on this board.

But they're right.

Yep, you don't deserve a nice car, but finding a reliable one is paramount -- and that can be something 5-10 yrs old with creased fenders and rust.

Edit: this is the point where people learn to distinguish between needs and wants, and budget accordingly. Or wind up with 50-100k in credit card debt.

Went to court. Paid $100 of it. Would have been nice for them to answer one of my letters asking if i could pay part of it and the rest later.

What amazed me was how many people that were there that day didn't have a drivers license.

At least you got it behind you. And, as you noted, there were a lot of people there. They may simply didn't have the time to respond to letters.

The judicial branch is a bureaucracy like any other. Secretaries put priorities on things and ... and ...

I'm so happy I'm a really safe driver who never even goes slightly over the speed limit -- never had a ticket of any kind in the 21 years I've been actively driving a car. :)

The flow of traffic is more important than the speed limit. High differences in speed are more dangerous than everyone going 5-10 over the limit.

Why doesn't your GF get a job? There are work from home jobs. Something is going to need to change, $20 extra a month will get you in trouble eventually. Sounds like you keep trying to find excuses for not making changes... try not to stress about it too much. Just be honest with yourself about what needs to happen to live comfortably again.

She did have a job. But quit once all the BS got to much. They were basically bullying her out of her job until she quit. She is also 7 months pregnant, so nobody will hire her.
