Can't move folder to dock

I have the Leopard OS 10.5.5. and a MacPRO. I can't move a folder to the dock. When I drag a folder to the dock, the existing icons do not move apart to make space for the folder and when I release the mouse, the folder is not inserted.

Help.

If you drag a folder to the dock it has to be to the right of any applications and to the left of the trash can.

i did this but it doesn't work

Restart your dock by typing "killall Dock" (without the quotes, is case-sensitive) into Terminal and press enter.

when you drag ur folder to the dock on the right side of the divide try and drag it to the bottom so its abit off screen,i know i had the same problem and it took some moving around.

You can only add folders next to the trashcan; not in the area reserved for applications.
