Cant move icons at all!

I upgraded to leopard about a month ago on my imac g5. Everything was fine until yesterday. I tried moving icons around the desktop, to no avail. I can't even move the Hard Disk around. I even tried opening folders and moving icons within them, but they don't move. anyone know what gives?

don't know if this is associated, but i have a numbers file on my desktop that i also cannot attach to email. It is greyed out when i try to attach

do you mean you can click on icons and move them around with a transparent icon following your mouse but then it doesnt move at all when you let go? or you cannot even do that?
