Hi there,

First time poster here so be gentle ;)

All of the sudden I am getting the "quit unexpectedly" error when I open ANY office program. I have tried restarting, shutting down completely and letting the computer sit as well as un-installing and reinstalling the complete Office package from my original disk and nothing is working. I'm using a MACBOOK and running 10.5.4. I have also run disk utility and had no issues there. Is there anything else you can suggest I try to figure out what in the world happened here.

Thanks!
Kimberly

Didn't do something like use Monolingual and kill off Rosetta support for Office 2004.

Thanks for the response and no, I haven't used either of these. I'd never heard of them until your post (googled them and nope, not familiar). The only thing that was done two days ago prior to this happening was a security update from Apple which I doubt was the problem. I'm still backtracking in my brain anything that might have happened to make this issue but I'm coming up blank. And of course, I can't live without my Office programs!

Any other ideas to try?

Thought it might help if I posted the error report ...

Looking at the security update on July 31...

New Mac OS X Security Update patches dangerous DNS hole

Mac OS X Leopard users are specifically affected by a potential exploit in the software's QuickLook feature and its handling of Microsoft Office files that could allow malicious code.

And MS issued an update to Office 2004 version 11.5.1 soon after.

Microsoft updates Office 2004 and Office 2008 for Mac

Edit: Don't know which ones are the combo updaters on the MS site to go from 11.0 to 11.5.1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953824

For a minute there I had my hopes that your post was going to be my answer but alas, nope :(

Again, I removed Office completely to see if that would help. When I put in my office disk - My computer gave me two options, use the set up assistant or to drag the file to the apps folder. When I chose the set up assistant I got the same "quit unexpectedly" error. I can do the drag and drop and the files copied, etc. but I still get the error message. I'm now officially freaking out. I am SO reliant on my Office programs.:eek::eek::eek:

Have you installed the 11.5 and 11.5.1 updates as suggested?

Yes I did but still no luck ... I would appreciate any suggestions. I have contacted Apple but of course I'm out of "phone support" and the only options they gave me were to pay $50.00 for support on this issue or "find the solution online." :(

That thread is for Office 2008 - I have Office 2004.

So sorry to be such a pain but man this is SO frustrating. I have spent more than 10 hours on the internet over the last two days trying to figure this out.

:(

Hello Kimberly

Easiest: download iWork demo from Apple; iWork can open/save as/and more stuff with M. original docs. Its own documents are compatible with the ghastly Microsoft monster...

Simply put: It can create documents that are compatible with Word and Excel of any version. It can open and edit M.W&E and save them as compatible with the original Microsoft gunge.

Good Luck.

Thanks! I'll check in to that immediately! I ended up calling Apple and paying the $50 bucks and had no luck last night with the advice they gave me. Just got home from work and am dialing them again to see if we can get anything solved!
