I just downloaded the latest SAfari onto my Imac.

Now my Gmail page will not open. All I get is a blank white page.

Any thoughts on what causes this?

even when I go to Gmail.com, I get this message:

Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “http://gmail.com/”. The error is: “Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 404.)” (NSCocoaErrorDomain:404) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

Actually I am using OS 10.5.8
so that Safari 5.0.6 would be the latest version for me. I just did the regular software update and now cannot use Gmail.

The latest Safari build is 5.1. You need to update what you downloaded.

why not just use firefox ? Safari isn't as good as it once was :(
but as you run 10.5.8 and post in the iMac section and dont run snow leopard 10.6 or Lion 10.7 like every intel iMac user
i assume you got a iMac G4 or a iMac g5 so do yourself a favor and download tenfourfox browser

I too have this problem with Safari not opening fully - am running v5.1 with Snow Leopard. I can use FF ok but kinda like Safari. Would love to get it sorted. Thanks

I am using FireFox as an alternative solution, but would like to have full functionality of my Mac, and Safari not being able to open Gmail is totally new to me and also totally unacceptable.

This should not be happening.

Why is suddenly Safari being such a weakling; it was created by the almighty Apple and is their only browser.
I do not understand how they could have this major flaw in it.

Same problem, same set-up

I encountered the exact problem when I downloaded Safari 10.0.6 (OS 10.5.8, MacBook Pro). I can open the Google site but can no longer access gmail - a blank page opens but nothing else. I can still open gmail in FF.

Unless there is a fix posted soon, I will shift to FF. What a pain.
