Can't open nor convert macOS 9 screenshots

I have taken a several screenshots on my macOS 9.2.2 using the cmd+shift+3 or 4. When I try to open them it said: The document Picture 1 could not be opened because the application "SimpleText" could not be found

I've searched for the SimpleText on the internet but could not find any (really) Then I've searched for a converter application and found one at https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/graphicconverter-5x but it didn't work.

How to take on macOS 9 a screenshot in a known format?

SimpleText is a stock Apple app and part of an OS9 install. It's like TextEdit in OS X.
