Can't open PDFs in either Safari or Firefox!

Hi folks

When I try to get Safari to view PDFs - we just get a grey screen when we follow a link to a PDF at the moment.

I have followed the thread to find out how I can get this fixed and none of the advice has resolved this, so I tried firefox to double-check that its an issue that affects Safari only ...and the same thing happens in Firefox (but this time with a white screen).

If we download the linked file we can open it with preview or adobe... Now this is an interesting one! Any ideas out theeeeeeereeeee

Re: Can't open PDFs in either Safari or Firefox!

Magiknet, since it's happening in both Safari and Firefox, it's clearly not a problem with either one per se. Have you tried uninstalling both Adobe Reader and the plugin? (You can leave all the preferences alone.) Then reinstall Adobe Reader (restart your computer just for good measure), and see if that works.

I got it to work!!!!

I followed the steps given to me on this blog and it works!

Here is what I did step by step:
Opened a FINDER window, then on the side bar went to my hard drive icon and selected it. Next I selected LIBRARY, then went to INTERNET PLUG-INS where I then saw the culprit plug-in "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" then dragged the AdobePDFViewer.plugin to the Disabled Plug-ins folder.

Next I went back to the website where I was trying to view a pdf file. When I tried to view it this time, it opened up immediately!

Afterwards I noticed that some people on here said you could also throw the AdobePDFViewer.plugin in the trash and it should also work for you as well.

Knowing that the Leopard OS system has a built-in viewer for PDF files made all the sense in the world once you taught me to disable or throw away the AdobePDFViewer.plugin.

Thank you guys so much, I was so done with trying to figure the problem out myself...so I typed "Safari will not render pdf's" in Google and saw MacRumors forums and Voila!!!, in less than a minute the problem was solved.:)

Open your hard-drive icon, open the Library folder, open the Internet Plug-Ins folder, and find the AdobePDFViewer.plugin file. Drag the .plugin to the trash, restart Safari.

I was so happy with the help that I signed up to respond with a BIG THANK YOU!!!

If you have admin privileges, you can just navigate to it and delete it.

Open your hard-drive icon, open the Library folder, open the Internet Plug-Ins folder, and find the AdobePDFViewer.plugin file. Drag the .plugin to the trash, restart Safari.

MAGIC!!! Thank You!
