I went online and ordered a pizza for my girlfriend (WITH NO MONEY) at home with Pizza Hut using online ordering and my iPhone app, while I am at work.
So they wouldn't let her have the pizza without having my card present! So she has no food for the night. Nor any money to eat at all. Thank you Pizza Hut for your LAME POLICY, and they wouldn't even let the driver talk to ME, THE CARDHOLDER, to allow the transaction to go through! THANK YOU STUPID PIZZA HUT. I am sorry Cassie, and I WILL NEVER GO TO PIZZA HUT AGAIN! Let's do a PizzaHut boycott MacRumors!!

VERY LAME.

P.S. I am sorry MacRumors, I just had to rant somewhere, :(

I've never once had a driver ask to see my credit card.

Don't feel too bad. Pizza Hut lost money making a pizza that'll never get payed for.

Oh, and your girlfriend will survive.

Try dominos, and papa johns?!

Ended up going for Papa John's that I ended up getting on my way home from work instead, but still was an inconvenience that I shouldn't have had to deal with. I was just very aggravated at the situation and had to rant.

The part that really bothered me was that the driver would refuse to even talk to me, even though I had everything they would need, from the card number, to my DL number, etc.

.
I think they get to eat the ones that are unpaid for, so if anything they got dinner for the night ..At least the driver wasted gas and didn't get any tip (obviously as there was no food)

I think Pizza Hut allows payment through PayPal now....
I never seen a PayPal option, keeping in mind, I ordered her favorite pizza just using the app, not the website.

Never have heard of this policy. I've ordered pizza several times from work for delivery at my house before I get there. They've never asked for the credit card, personally I would have just lied and I'm sure the delivery guy wouldn't have given a woot.

I guess it must be just the location that's near our house. You're right, I have never had any issues with Domino's, or other PH locations when I lived in Tempe.

The Domino's near us has the same policy...

They put the card behind their merchant receipt and scribble across with a pencil. It copies down the card number. The policy is in place to prove you actually made the purchase and can't deny it to your bank. Annoying for us but makes sense for them.

Its really weird when you go to small towns and they make you sign the receipt at the drive thru or the gas station.

The McDonald's here makes you sign the receipt at the drive thru as well, I found that peculiar. The DQ actually hands you an entire PIN pad at the drive thru for you to type in your PIN, which is even weirder.

Use Papa Johns. Once they have your credit card info, they don't care who answers the door to get the pizza. They've never asked for my card at all.

My local pizza joints ask to see the card about half of the time. Like someone else said, I'm sure it is to avoid fraud and chargebacks.

Yes, it's a policy. They are even supposed to imprint the last 4 digits of the card on the receipt using a pen and they bring it back to prove that the card exists and wasn't stolen online. Most drivers are lazy and never do this which is why it's not happened to so many.

Also, if I had a quarter for every customer who said that they would never do business with Pizza Hut again but did anyways a week later, I would be rich. I delivered PH pizza for 18 years.

Here in Canada, when you pay with debit or credit at a drive-thru they always give you a full PIN pad to do the transaction. Thought that was the norm everywhere

Only newer places here do that, other places I guess don't want to pay money for the newer technology yet, or they just don't bother with debit cards and only do signature based transactions/cash.

Canada is ahead of the curve on this continent when it comes to introducing smart chip cards and readers. It's just about impossible now to find a place, at least in BC, that doesn't have a chip reader. When we were in NY earlier this I didn't find a single retailer who was "chipped".

They are protecting your identity. The driver is just doing his job.

How is talking to someone over the phone verifying they own the credit card?

I can name a few...

Wal-Mart
Sam's Club (yeah I know its part of Wal-Mart)
7-11
Circle K (Here in AZ)
Home Depot

All have Chip & PIN readers, as well as magstripe

There is no food for her to cook?

My own irresponsibility to not do the grocery shopping yet :(. I have done that now too.

She's a woman!
She can't cook for herself? Jesus!

Here's a tip: find a woman that knows how to cook. I have that kind of woman and it's so nice to come home from work and she's waiting for me with a nice warm meal and a beer.

You're a man, dontwalkhand! FFS!

L.E. i just saw your last post. Ignore my post. :)

It's our house, and they have delivered here plenty of times before, but my card was present only half the time.

My understanding is that these are exceptions, while here it is a very rare exception to find non-chipped store and a non-chipped card.

One of the advantages of only have Big Banks that operate on a national level, is that when they decide to put in a new technology, they can roll it out in a matter of months, whether the merchants or consumers want it or not.

We don't have any big pizza chains where I live, so I have no experience with ordering from them. Of course, our town is so small if I called one of our local pizza joints I'd probably know someone who worked there and I'd just arrange to pop-in later and pay them then.

wow, that is a lame policy. so, you can't buy someone a dinner when you're out? you can't expect anyone to leave their credit card at home every time they go out.
