    I have:
    iPhone 3GS running 3.0
    15" unibody MBP running 10.5.7

I turned bluetooth on on both devices, searched for new devices ... then the iPhone shows up in the list, I select it, click continue, then the correct PIN code shows up on the iPhone ... I click 'pair' and then it keeps loading until I get an error message saying that the process failed...

    Same problem over and over.

    Can anyone help me out?

    thanks in advance!

I am having the same issue. Did you resolve this issue and if so how?

I read somewhere else on the forums that the iPhone won't pair with anything but an audio device. the one exception being for tethering, which I've tried and even then it won't let you do anything but tether. maybe someone else can clarify this better.

Why are you wanting to pair it anyway? isn't that what the sync cable is for?

I thought you had to pair it up in order to get tethering over bluetooth to work,. Am I mistaken?

I read on another forum board the problem was that after pressing pair on the iphone once the confirmation code had appeared it was not obvious you then had to press continue again within the bluetooth setup, thus timing both devices out.

That’s correct, the iPhone can’t pair with anything other than headsets and third-party audio devices (such as a car kit). The Bluetooth apparently doesn’t have a built in file-transfer protocol which is what would be required to make it work with other devices.

That is incorrect, as of OS3.0 iPhones can pair with computers for the purpose of tethering. Although, you are correct, there is no file transfer protocol.

    mgpg89: glad it helped :)

Perhaps they may be "able" to; however, the functionality is available yet in the US.

Ahhh... of course the dreaded AT&T... Luckily i'm in Australia, reaping the benefits of having 5 carriers selling the iphone, with all features available.
