Can't paste # in phone dialer!

Any tricks in order to copy/paste a phone number in the phone dialer?

Tap and hold the empty area just above the top "1", "2", "3" row of buttons and a paste option should appear after a few seconds.

Im aware of how it used to work. This method isn't working for me anymore. I can't get the "paste" to appear in the dialer.

No. It works fine on my 5S.

Well, what I mentioned wasn't just how it used to work but how it still works for me in iOS 8 on iPhone 5.
