Hi,

I have copied all my dvd movies as an image file into an external hard disk.

recently, i tried to play one movie.
The DVD player loaded the image file, then asked me to set a dvd region
which i did.
then, the whole system hung
finally, i had to remove my battery to restart my system
what should i do, if it happens again?

also, is there any way of viewing this movie?
i used vlc player. But the video is scrampled and i am not able to see anything.
Is there any other dvd player (free) available for mac

one more thing, normally, a dvd disc will have 2 folders
video_ts and audio_ts
but, my movie has only video_ts

it would be really helpful if someone could suggest how to fix this

thanks

Sounds like a bad rip to me. The problem doesn't sound like it's caused by your DVD playing software, but rather the DVD rip itself.

Disk Utility isn't meant for ripping DVDs. There are programs for the Mac dedicated to this purpose, such as MacTheRipper, which I'd highly recommend you look into.

doesn't making an image equal to ripping a dvd?
until recently, i never thought of using any ripping software.
it will take lot of time to rip the movies again. so, if i can avoid that, that would be best thing for me

can u also suggest some good dvd player for mac?

Making an image is not quite the same. Ripping software will create the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on a folder in your hard drive of your choosing, as opposed to putting them inside a disk image. The end result is practically identical though - you can play the DVD without needing the physical disk.

As for DVD playback software, I don't know of any for the Mac, besides the two you mentioned.

Disk Utility can't copy encrypted DVDs.
