Cant play COD2 on windows

Hi.

I've installed Windows on my mac today. I've tried to install COD2 for windows. It installed successfully. The only question is, everytime I load the game, this appears:

DirectX Error DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please check DirectX Help document for possible details.

I already have directX 9c installed so I really can't figure out what's the problem here. I'm running XP. Can anyone help? Thanks.
